Note | OBITUARY: Copied as published. COMANCHE, TEXAS, JUNE 5, 1953 RITES HELD FOR A.L. McDANIEL EX-STATESMAN Funeral services were held in the Stag Creek Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30th for A. Lonzo McDaniel Sr., one of the county's oldest residents, who passed away silently at the age of 91 wher e he was residing in Comanche. His death at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday followed several days of senile weakening. He was laid to rest beside his wife, Sarah Elizabeth, who died March 16, 1948. Funeral services were under the direction of the Comanche Funeral Home, Reverend Welch, pastor of the Primitive Baptis t Church of DeLeon officiated. Mr. McDaniel is survived by eight sons and two daughters. He had one brother, Jack, of Hale Center, and one sister, Elizabeth of Merkel, Troy, a half-brother lives in California, and Frances, a half- sister lives in Frederick, Oklahoma. All were unable to attend his funeral. Besides these relatives there are 42 grandchildren, approximately 68 great-grandchildren and at least 6 great-great grandc hildren A. Lonzo was born on January 10, 1862, in Robertson County, Texas. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Chambers on June 8, 1882. To this union were born eleven children, 9 boys and 2 girls: Davis, Hed ley; and Lon, Sipe Springs; Ernest, May; Martin, Sipe Springs; Otis, Cleburne; Claude, Brownwood; Parker, Gorman; Hobart who died of whooping cough when two; Roy, Comanche; Dora Jones, Comanche; and N ora Yancey, Sipe Springs. A.L. McDaniel rode into Comanche County on a horse in 1882. He had been a resident of the Gap community for the past seventy-one years. He once owned a store at Gap and gins at both Gap and Sidney . He was active in politics, was chairman of Precinct 32 for many years, and served two terms as representative during the 36th and 37th Legislatures. He and his wife joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Gap in 1882. Later he organized the Willow Springs Baptist Church and served as its clerk for fifty years. He remained a member of this church. Some of the out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Robby Price, Odessa; Mr. and Mrs. Dub Hawkins, Dallas; A.L. Faulkner and D.L. and F.L. Broumby, Cleburne; Eva Hix, Brownfiel d; Lillian Bryan, Lubbock; Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Reynolds, Merkel; Ruby Meek, Plainview; Mr. and Mrs. Carter, Abilene; and Dewey McDaniel, Seagraves.
