OBITUARY: Dallas (TX) Morning News, Tuesday, 19 September 1972: EX-WRITER FOR NEWS DIED AT 39 Miss Sue N. Connally, 39, a former medical writer for The Dallas News, died early Monday in Houston. Miss Connally, who had been with The Dallas News from 1954 to March, 1972, was a medical writer for the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute at Houston and Hermann Hospita l in Houston. A resident of Dallas from 1954 to Houston, Miss Connally had been awarded the 1964 Annual Press Award of the Dallas County Medical Society and received in 1970 an honorable mention of the Journalism A ward of the American Medical Association. In 1970, she won for the third time the Media Award of the Dallas Hospital Council. In 1972, Miss Connally was presented with a plaque by the Children's Medical Center medical staff for her "factual rather than mythical" reporting of health issues and pediatric programs. Miss Connally served on the board of directors of the Dallas Council on Alcoholism from 1969 until she moved to Houston. She also was on the board of directors of the Visiting Nurse Association. Miss Connally, who was a native of Palestine, Anderson County, graduated from Athens High School in 1950 and Baylor University in 1954. She was a summer intern for The Dallas News in 1953. She later j oined The News as a general assignments reporter and was education writer before she was designated as medical writer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hassell and Foster Funeral Chapel in Athens. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, Anderson County. |
