Note | Sandy Alpers Sandra Kay (Sandy) Alpers, 45, associateminister with City Light Community Ministries, went home to bewith her Lord and Savior at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000,after suffering a heart attack at Hen drick Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursdayin Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, 5701 Hwy 277 South, followedby a memorial service at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Chapel.Dr. Phil Christopher and th e Rev. David Leyerle, will officiate. "Miss Sandy," as she was knownby hundreds of children and single mothers she led in Bible studiesfor many years, was an organizing trustee of City Light CommunityMinistries, an outreach ministry of Fi rst Baptist Church. Shewas a longtime Bible teacher for the Family Life Center and theBig A Club, a ministry to elementary school students. She pastoredthe City Light Mission Point at the Riviera Apar tments and helpedorganize Bible study clubs at the Pioneer, Vogel and Deegan publichousing complexes. Sandy also worked with the handicapped throughTexas Home Management for several years. She overcame many obstaclesto become a minister and had a special passion for teaching childrenand single mothers . She organized three annual, all-day Godstockgospel musicals in Rose Park. She was a member of First Baptist Churchand taught Sunday School for many years. She was born Jan. 13, 1955, in Dallas andgraduated from high school in Irving. She attended Hardin-SimmonsUniversity. She married Larry Alpers on Nov. 12, 1976, in Abilene. Sandy is survived by her husband, of thehome; two sons, Michael Wayne of San Angelo, and Jason of thehome; one daughter, Amy Michelle of the home; two brothers, GerryWalker of Abilene and Jimmy Walke r of Troup; five sisters, SherryCole and Linda Reeves of Jacksonville, TX.; Barbara Bryan of Palestine,TX, Karen Pasqua of Wills Point and Beverly Walker of Troup; agrandson, Tristan Anthony Alpers o f San Angelo; and by her step-father,Charles Bruner of Troup; and her adoptive family: Lucille, Carole,Connie and Kenny Pritchett, all of Irving; and Larry Pritchettof Brownwood. She is also survive d by an untold number of brothersand sisters in Christ that she led to the Lord. |
