Note | Excerpt taken from Bowie Area Centennial Survey 1882-1982: History of Building-Griffin's Drug The building located on the corner of Mason and Tarrant Streets and occupied by Griffin Drugstore was built in 1895. The owner was Millard F. Allen, who owned and operated a grocery store located abo ut where the US Post Office is now located. When the building was finished, Mr. Allen moved his grocery store there. It also occupied by GW Haltom's Jewelry Store and EM Stalling's Insurance Office . Millard Allen sold his grocery store to his brother (AJ Allen) in 1911 or 1912 and the building was rented to Mr. Tom Worley who operated a drugstore there, then to Mr. Fred Young, also a druggist . In July of 1935 Mr. Young sold the store to Mr. Glynne Gridffin whose son Ligon Griffin, now operates the business and also owns the business. |
