Birth: Oct. 22, 1856Death: Sep. 24, 1934 Obit: MRS. N. J. CALLED BY DEATH. Death came Monday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock to Mrs. N. J. Smith, 77, well known Hunt County woman. Mrs. Smith passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Bean, 1221 Walnut Street. The funeral services were held at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon at Clinton, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Pearce, pastor of the Park Street Baptist Church. Pall bearers were grandsons of Mrs. Smith: Marvin Griffis, Claude Griffis, Loyd Griffis, Nugent Renfro, Roy Renfro and Horace Stephenson. The following grand daughters of Mrs. Smith were flower girls: Mrs. Gracie Maude Corley, Mrs. Helen Beathea, Mrs. Clara D. Bramlett, Mrs. Dora Shaw, Mrs. Annie Belle Tidwell and Miss Deloris Shields. Mrs. Smith who was Miss Nancy Jane Edgar before her marriage, was born on October 22, 1856 in Hart County, Kentucky. She was married to Ed Pulliam in 1873 and to the union three children were born . Her husband and two children preceded her in death. In 1886 she came to Texas from Kentucky and located in this county near Clinton. On June 5, 1887, she was married to D. G. Smith and to this union six children were born. Early in life Mrs. Smith professed faith in Christ and united with the Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful Christian throughout the remainder of her life and sought to exemplify the teachin g of the Master in her every day life. She was well known in this county and had hundreds of friends who will join the bereaved family in mouring her passing. At the time of her death, Mrs. Smith was a member of the Park Street Baptist Church of this city. She had been interested in the activities of the church and its work in behalf of the advancement o f Christianity since she became affiliated with it. Surviving Mrs. Smith are her husband (husband died in 1920) and the following children: Mrs. R. M. Renfro, Greenville; Mrs. C. F. Bean, Greenville; L. N. Smith, San Francisco, California; Mrs. B. C. S hields, Mineola; Mrs. J. V. Griffis, Greenville and Ed Pulliam of El Reno, Oklahoma. Sixteen grandchildren and two great grand children also survive. A daughter, Mrs. A. D. Stephenson preceded her i n death.
