Velma L. Murdock, 80, of Whitney passed away Dec. 29, 2008. Chapel services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Marshall & Marshall Chapel in Whitney. Interment will be 2 p.m. Friday, at Grove Hill Mem orial Park in Dallas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Velma was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Dallas, the daughter of the late W. James and Vergie (Cavender) Wetherell. She serv ed her country in the U. S. Navy from 1951-1956. She had worked as a registered nurse for the V.A. hospital in Dallas for 20 years, Park Plaza nursing home in Whitney, and for St. Catherines and Provi dence Park nursing homes in Waco retiring in 2008. She was of the Catholic faith. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post # 522. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Anit a Fitzgibbons. Survivors include her children, Rita Monk, Butch Murdock, Clifford Murdock and Paul Murdock; grandchildren, Carrie Neckar, Thomas Monk, Alishia Murdock, Jason Murdock, Matthew Round an d Jonathan Potter; and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Heart for the care shown to their mother. Memorials may be made to the , 1311 North New Road, Waco, TX 7 6710.
