When you go to Clinton, there will be a road kind of in the middle of the small town that crosses over where a railroad track use to be. If you come in from Farmsville, the road will be on your right . There might even be a sign for the cemetery but I don’t remember one. When you get to the cemetery, which will be out of town, turn in at the first gate you come too. Dennis Grady Sr. and Marga ret Smith are buried almost immediately when you drive thru. Their graves have had a cement slab over them at one period but it is very crumbled now. I honestly believe Anna Maria Ashley Smith is bu ried at that same place but I have no proof. There is a small stone that has A. M. on it and I believe it is Anna Maria Ashley’s. With both of them, Anna Maria and Anna Margaret having the same in itials, it is not a sure thing but in my heart I think Anna Maria is buried there with her in-laws. The stones are not very readable. I never did try putting flour on the writing to bring the letter ing up but it might work. Dennis Grady Smith, Jr. is buried kind of in the front center of the cemetery closer to the main road. Between the two gates, there is a plaque telling about the cemetery.. .Dennis Grady Smith and Nancy Jane Edgar Smith are buried a little ways behind that plaque. Like you said, we are related to many people buried there. It is kind of funny. I am related to many of t he ones buried there and my husband is related to many of the rest. We didn’t know this until about 8 years ago. You will find the Stephensons, Willie Smith Stephenson, daughter of Jr., (large fen ced in plot), Renfro’s, Maggie Maude, daughter of Jr. (there will be Robert Monroe, Maggie Maude and two childrens graves, Jewel and Minnie. I think they might be to the right of the Stephenson P lot. There are some of Jr.s brothers buried there too. Leonides Cisero with wife Martha J. and Joseph B. Smith with wife Elizabeth F....Up the road you will find the town of Caddo Mills. At the I . O. O. F. Cemetery you will find another family...the Griffis, Jessie Myrtle Smith Griffis. Her husband was James Virgil Griffis. When you pull into the front gate, follow the road to your left th en after you pass the gazabo you will find their graves a short distance from there. They will be on your left. Oh, I hope I am giving you all the right directions. It has been 6 years since I hav e been there. I love the Clinton Cemetery. My mother and I went to Hunt County, looking for 46 graves in 5 cemeteries. We found every one of them. What a wonderful trip. We loved the Clinton Cem etery so much, we got our lawn chairs out and sit at the back of the cemetery by the Webb plot, which is my husbands family, and had a picnic. It was so quiet and lovely there. We could see the blac k cows out in the very green pastures and the flowers were blooming all over the cemetery. You appreciate things like this when you live in the desert of West Texas. When we first got there I misse d the first gate and had to use the second one. I was looking at the graves as we drove by and there was my ggrandfather and ggrandmother, James and Mary Edgar graves!!!!!! I cried when I saw thei r graves. I didn’t know they were buried there. Two of my cousins put a very nice stone there for them about 30 years ago. They also put a nice stone on the graves of Dennis Jr. and Nancy Smith . I don’t know if you are aware of this or not....when Anna Maria Ashley Smith died, Dennis married the sister of his son in law, Nancy Jane Edgar (who would be my great aunt). The son in law was m y grandpa, John Edwin Edgar. For some reason this caused a terrible riff between my grandpa and Dennis. My grandpa would not even speak of him, Dennis, to the family. Dennis had 6 children with Ann a Maria and 5 with Nancy Jane Edgar Pulliam Smith. As far as I know, Jessie Myrtle was the only one that visited the Edgars in Oklahoma. She was a Jehovah’s Witness and so was a few of the Edgar s in Madill, Ok., so she did not have a problem with visiting them. My mother remembered seeing her and thought she was a remarkable person, very sweet and kind.

From Joyce Phipps When Dennis Grady’s first wife, Anna Maria Ashley, died, Dennis married the sister,(Nancy Jane) of his son in law, John Edwin Edgar. John was already married to Sara Elizabeth. For some reason th e marriage between Dennis and Nancy, made my grandpa furious. My grandmother, Sarah, was never allowed to go back to Greenville for a visit or have any contact with her Smith family.
So this made Nancy Jane not only my step grandmother, she was already my great aunt. One of her full sisters, Jessie Myrtle, my grandma’s half sister, crossed the line many times and went to Madil l, Oklahoma to see her sister. Jessie was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and she was not going to let a squabble between her brother in law and her father stand between her visiting her sister. Also t here were some Witnesses in Madill that she went to see too. He was Lee White, son in law of John Edwin Edgar. He was my beloved uncle. So Jessie was kind of the go between of all the families. I w as told that at one point, there were letters exchanged between the Texas Smiths and the Oklahoma Smiths/Edgars. I hope so. This probably happened after Dennis died in 1920.
