Note | Thomas White served four enlistments during the Revolutionary War, the last of which was under General Francis Marion. He was the personal servant of the General and served the potatoes on bark on th e occasion of a visit by the British officer who had called on Gen. Marion to arrange some business matters. This incident is recorded in "The Electric History of the United States" one of the text b ooks in use in Kentucky in 1881.
